How Oriessa Began

This site grew out of years spent working inside lifestyle media — styling shots, testing tutorials, chasing down the right paint code, and learning, often the hard way, what actually holds up once it leaves the page and enters a real home or a real morning routine. Somewhere along the way, it became obvious that readers didn't need more glossy, unattainable inspiration. They needed ideas that respected their time, their budget, and their actual living room. Meet Elena Vance

I'm Elena Vance, the editor and curator behind Oriessa. I grew up in a house where nothing was ever quite finished — my mother sewed and repurposed everything she could get her hands on, and my father built furniture in the garage on weekends, tinkering until it was right. Nothing in our home was magazine-perfect, but it was endlessly inventive, and I think that's where my real design education started, long before I ever studied communications at university.

My first job in editorial had me styling product flat-lays for a regional shelter magazine, and I was, honestly, not very good at it at first — badly lit photos, awkward angles, the works. But that early struggle taught me more about composition, natural light, and the quiet patience behind anything that looks effortless than any class ever could. Eight years later, after moving through print and fully into digital lifestyle content, that lesson still shapes everything I publish here: nothing is truly effortless, but with the right guidance, it can feel that way.

Today, my role is part curator, part translator — gathering the best DIY, decor, beauty, and style ideas from real practice and everyday experimentation, then shaping them into something you can actually use.
